As she promised, Cellina took Eidlin to the forest to practice archery. She tossed her a plain, but accurate, wood long bow, with a silver hand rest.
She picked up her own long bow, light and silver, but strong and accurate, and placed an sleek arrow on it. There had always been a target set up for the elves to practice on, if they ever ventured out of the city, and she shot it, getting a bulls-eye. She smiled.
"Your turn."

Smiling, Eidlin placed the bow in her left hand and nocked the arrow with her right. Her movements were slow, hesitant, as if her arms were awaking from their long sleep. The bow was lighter then any sword Eidlin was used to holding, and her body stance was slightly different from her guard position.
Holding the arrow in place with her pointer finger on her left hand, she pulled back the feathery end with her right hand. Aiming at the target, Eidlin closed her right eye and removing her pointer finger let the arrow fly.
Seconds later a dull thud was heard as the arrow made contact with the target. She lowered the bow and turned to Cellina.
"I told you I need practice. But I could always say that I was aiming for the outer rim of the target, and so I hit my mark," the half elf joked.

Cellina had been watching her and noticed that there were a couple things wrong.
"I told you I need practice. But I could always say that I was aiming for the outer rim of the target, and so I hit my mark," the half elf joked.
Cellina smiled. "Well... i guess i can give you some pointers..." she chuckled slightly,
"Your left arm should be at a ninty degree angle and both of your eyes should be open and not concentrating on the target. When you stand, posed your feet, shoulder-width apart and the left foot slighly ahead of the right."

Eidlin listened to Cellina as only the most dedicated student can. She knew that she needed help in remembering, and she couldn't have asked for a better teacher.
She reached for another arrow and repeated the procedure, only following her friend's directions.
"Eyes open, well, at least that much isn't different," she said out loud as she let her arrow fly. It hit the target, only on the opposite side from the last arrow.
Looking at Cellina, Eidlin smiled. "You were right both times. It is only my own arms that do not obey the instructions. I still feel as though I should be holding a sword, not a light bow."

Cellina smiled to herself and clapped her hands. A heavy steel bow was replaced with the light silver one. "Will this make a difference?"

Eidlin smiled as she accepted the heavier bow from her friend.
"Only one way to find out," she said as she took aim once more. But just as she was about to let the third arrow fly, a twig snapped in the darkness of the wood. Looking up, she released the arrow and it flew past the target and away from sight.
Eidlin looked to see where her arrow went along with what had caused her to let if head in that direction to begin with.
"Sorry," she said to Cellina, still looking into the gloom. "Instincts." That, even to her, was not much of an explanation. "How about you shoot one, so that I can see your stance again."

Cellina's eyes followed the arrow and she saw that it had hit a stump. She smiled and then nodded to Eidlin's suggestion. She took her stance, just as she had told her, and shot, hitting the bulls-eye.
"There." she smiled and turned to her friend, "Your turn, but try this." she handed her new friend a silver arrow.

"How will this help?" she asked, a perplexed look on her face. She took the arrow, not sure whether to shoot it or not.

"Silver seems to slice the wind, so you have a straight shot." she motioned towards the target, "Go ahead."

And so she did. Letting the arrow loose, it indeed flew swiftly and accurately to the target.
"Not exactly the center, but it's an improvement," Eidlin said as the tip protruded from one of the outer circles of the target.
"However, I fear this exercise might be boring you," she turned to her friend. "How about a friendly competition of skills. I want you to get something out of this day as well. And although I might not be much of a challenger, but perhaps what I have in mind is just as hard."
Turning, she pulled out an arrow but lay down her bow. "First," she said using the arrow as a pointer, "you will need to spear one of those new green, small leaves with the tip of your arrow and have your arrow land as close to you as you can. Whoever's arrow is closer and with the leaf wins. Than the winner makes up the next task. What do you say?" Eidlin pointed out a young tree a little to their right with newly growing leaves. "But I warn you. No magic." She was smiling, for she hoped that her idea would liven the day up a bit.

Celllina smiled and nodded. She set an arrow on her bow, and lifted it up to line it up. She let go and watched the arrow hit the center of the leaf. She grinned insanely to herself, but frowned slightly to keep up Eidlin's hopes. "Your turn. See if you can get it closer than mine."

"I'll try," she said although her hopes were slim. Nocking a new arrow, Eidlin aimed for a leaf close enough in her range. Than, raising her bow so that it was at a 75% angle from the leaf. Letting the arrow go, Eidlin watched it streak into the sky and pivot in the air above them and fall to the ground. It skimmed the tree's top and landed well ahead of Cellina's previous arrow. Only, Eidlin's did not have a leaf on it's shaft.
"Well, you win this round," Eidlin said with a smile. "Your turn to make up a challenge, but try to make it hard on yourself. I'd hate for you to be bored."

Cellina smiled and nodded. "You shoot up, i hit your arrow in the right direction and then visa-versa."

"That's difficult enough," she said with mock anger, although a smile played on her lips. "All right then, here goes nothing," Eidlin said aiming her arrow into the blue sky. Letting it go, she looked to Cellina to do her move.

Cellina quickly shot three arrows. The first one hit the back of her arrow, hitting the target, and the third one hit the second one, hitting the ground in front of the target. "Ah..." she sighed and looked at her friend. "You turn!" she smiled.
