Eidlin wasn't sure of how to reply, so she simply waited for Mortimer to turn his horse around so that the both of them could head for the city. As she waited, she let go of the reigns so that Balsid could finally lower his head to the ground at pick at the dead grasses below.
Eidlin also reached down into one of the numerous pockets she had on her saddle and pulled out a water sack. Taking a drink of the cool water she looked back at her companion. He was secluded, that much she could tell. He was not amiable, nor was he trusting, but she hoped that his countenance might change in the future, if only just a little.
Feeling a little better with her throat now not so dry, she looked back at Mortimer with a small smile. "Would you like some?" she asked, holding the bag out to him.

Mortimer turned his horse round with some effort as the mare pulled franticaly at a last clump of grass. Eidlin held out a water sack at arms length, offering him a well needed drink. She had gone somewhat subdued since his offer of allowing her to travel with him to the city. Even he had to admit it was unusual for himself to do such a thing, but not unknown. The woman was odviously of no threat nor of questionable character and seemed to be about as quiet and about as usual as he was when it came to personality, at least he would not get his ear bitten off like some wenches he knew, it would make a change to be in the company of somebody alike himself.
He took the sack, reaching across the gap between their two horses, his mare side stepping slightly to breatch the distance. He put the sack to his lips taking a swig from the sack, quenching his thirst and partched mouth and lips. The harsh sun and desolate surrounding tainted your thourghts, untill now he had not realised how hungry he really was. His stomach grummbled and the cool water trickled down his throat.
He passed the sack back with a small smile. Down the small hillside the grass plains rolled on untill they met the city gates, a good few miles.
"Well, better get started I suppose if you want to get there before night fall."
He said a little bit more spritly, his spirites raising with his thirst answerd for the moment.
Ushering the tired mare on with a tap of his boots on her flanks the horse stepped forward.

Eidlin took back the water sack and replaced it in the saddle pocket with a smile of her own. As his horse began walking, Balsid followed with no urging of hers. She smiled at her horse, for he was well trained and letting go of the reigns, she reached once more towards her saddle. This time she pulled out two apples from a different pocket.
"Sir Speigel," she called out so that he would turn. "I found them in the forest, might be a little bitter, hope you don't mind," she said raising the fruit so that he could see. Not waiting for a reply, she threw both to him, one right after the other. "I have a sack full, if you'd like more." All this she said with a genuine smile.
