Surreal ignored all protests, rolling to her feet smoothly. She looked at Lorenzo, getting ready for the counter that did not come. Puppy War doesn't seem to have training, Surreal thought to herself, merely from his reaction. A smile twitched at her lips as she thought of the immediately drawn sword. Definitely has heart and instinct though.
"Do you not fight back, one who wishes to be warrior?" Surreal taunted, baiting him into attacking her. "How do you expect to win battles if you play only the defensive?"

"Forgive me, if I wasn't quite up for the challenge at first," said Lorenzo, seemingly falling for the bait. "But you didn't give me much of a choice in the matter." He raised his buckler toward his head, his sword raised in his right hand. It was indeed a magnificently made sword. It was what some people called a 'bastard sword', though most called, for the sake of the name, a 'hand and a half sword'.
Though now Lorenzo stared at the Archmage in caution. 'What should I do?' He thought, pacing back and forth in place. 'Surely she would've dealt a quick strike if she wanted me out...why is she just standing there?' He wanted to be a warrior, a hero, all the et cetera that followed, but he didn't want to make a fool out of himself.
What would he say? 'No, come fight me?' Or just plain throw down his sword, give up, and take the punishment of the dungeons? Surely his Father could get him out...but what of his Uncle? The Fart had told him where the place was...what would he say to him if he gave up now?
A twinkle appeared in Lorenzo's eyes, as he realized what would be better. Grasping the sword in his hand, with his buckler raised, he jumped back onto the pile of weapons and armour. "I suppose we'll have to see, won't we?" He said in response.

Surreal smiled at Lorenzo. "Wrong answer." She kicked up one of her knives by the hilt and kicked it again from midair so that it hit the armor Lorenzo was standing on, making it avalanche. By now it was obvious: if Surreal had wanted Lorenzo hurt he would have been bleeding. She merely wanted to test his ability and see what advice she could give him.
"Come now," Surreal said over the clatter of all the weapons and armor sliding beneath Lorenzo's feet. "Will you not try a new answer?"

'So that didn't work,' thought Lorenzo sheepishly as the mountain of weapons and armour collapsed beneath him. He jumped onto a tower shield as it skidded down the avalanching pile. Surfing down to the bottom, he jumped off, letting it slide quickly towards the Archmage's feet.
He knew that little attacks caused by the area around them was the only offense he could perform. The moment he went on the offensive with his sword ready, she would have him right where she wanted him and he would be done for. Somehow he had to keep himself on the defensive, while not being completely dominated.
Finding the knife lying beside where he landed, he picked it up and asked politely, "I think this belongs to you?" He lifted up the knife, and with his buckler raised, tossed the knife blade first at the Archmage.

Surreal sidestepped the shield, at the same time moving from the blade's path. She dropped her sword momentarily so that when the blade was next to her, she picked it from the air and tossed it back with the others on the ground. "So nice of you to return a weapon to its owner." She grabbed her sword from the floor calmly and moved back into position.
"Was I wrong? Are you truly an assassin at heart? One who attacks from far, but shies from close encounters?" Surreal raised her eyebrow, her entire body so relaxed she was no longer in a fighting stance. A poor measure at best, but this was another thing Surreal needed to know about Lorenzo: would he attack when he thought his enemy was at rest?

Lorenzo was highly confused. One moment, Surreal seemed ready to kill, constantly dodging every move that Lorenzo threw at her...it was as if his fears were true, that there was no beating the Archmage. And then came the thing which shocked him most!
She was relaxing!
"Archmage?" Lorenzo said again, coming closer, though buckler still raised. "Is...is the battle over? Why aren't you in a battle position anymore?" He was so close now that if she had come into a battle position at that moment, Lorenzo could be killed.
But he was prepared for that. His sword was gripped tightly in his hand, his left arm was ready for any hit that could come to the buckler. But he wouldn't be the one to attack first.

Surreal sighed deeply, looking Lorenzo in the eyes. "You have so much to learn, Lorenzo. So much of illusions, tricks, treachery." Surreal dropped her sword on the ground and gripped her wounded arm. "The fight is done, only because it could have been ended so easily the moment you approached me. I could have feigned with the sword, and while you blocked that sent a blade straight under your ribcage into your heart."
Surreal's hand and arm glowed blue as she healed herself. Muscle connected with muscle, skin pulled together, cells merged until her arm was whole. Surreal bent and began to collect her weapons. If Lorenzo attacked now, which Surreal doubted he would she would be convinced that he could begin traveling. If not, she would tell him to begin training with a local weapons master who was a friend of hers or with local thieves.

It was just as Lorenzo knew it. Just as his Uncle knew it. He could see his old and tired face now, sitting in his parlor, regretting ever even trying to teach Lorenzo. 'Lorenzo, you will never be as good as your Father was. You'll never be able to avenge his absence.'
His Father would reprimand him for ever even going near such a place. He would be told that he was a fool, and everything he had ever looked up to would be for nothing. He wasn't ready to disappoint everyone. Then, suddenly, he realized something.
"No. This battle isn't over," mumbled Lorenzo, "This battle just began this instant when you were fully healed." Taking his sword, and staring at the head of the Archmage, he went to strike at her, knowing it was his chance to prove himself to his Uncle, the spirit of his younger Father, and to the Archmage.

Surreal felt wind whisper across her neck and turned, bringing her sword up to catch Lorenzo's blade. She raised her eyebrows at him, having not expected the bout of sudden bravery, so it seemed. "The battle has been raging for long before you were born," Surreal said quietly. "It is you who have just joined it." She slid from beneath the sword, pushing Lorenzo's with hers so that when she stood they were in an even lock.
"I don't know whether to welcome you to the battle or beat your hide with the flat of my sword for trying to behead me," Surreal mused, a smile twitching on her lips.

Lorenzo laughed silently at the Archmage's comment. 'Well this is no good. Not going to get anything done at all in a lock like this.' He watched the Archmage's other sword warily, if he tried anything he would find himself gutted.
Lorenzo wasn't alone either...he still had it behind his gol. But in what situation would it come in handy? Not now, at least. To get back on the upper hand, he would have to think. He couldn't use his arms, seeing how both of his hands were gripped firmly onto his hand-and-a-half sword, so that would only mean that he would have to use his -
Lorenzo took a rogue leg and went to slide the Archmage down from under her feet, in a similar way that she did at the very beginnning.

Surreal noticed the sliding of Lorenzo's feet a half second too late and pushed him back as she fell so that his sword, losing the pressure of hers, would not impale her. She rolled over backwards on the ground, arms straight out on either side so that her main sword would not hit her as she grabbed her other sword. Surreal stood and smiled, her feet automatically in a fighting stance, a sign that she know took Lorenzo seriously as an opponent.
Without waiting for the space of a heartbeat, Surreal swung forward, both swords sweeping down low and over so that they aimed squarly for Lorenzo's shoulders.

Lorenzo grinned when his distraction successfully hit, despite him being pushed back from the Archmage's retaliation. Anything was better than being in a lock. Because the push was only to stop the sword from impaling her, he didn't even fall off of his feet, ready to attack within seconds.
Lorenzo's eyes quickly moved back to the Archmage, seeing her ready her pose once more. Within a millisecond she charged towards him with her swords ready, and that's when Lorenzo cursed the fact he only had one blade.
'I've learned my lesson from before,' thought the Elf, looking down at his buckler and shaking his head, 'Only the sword will be enough.' He swung the huge sword to strike one of the swords out of her hand, and threw the rest of his body towards his left, hoping to dodge the other one.

Surreal's sword, the one that was not blocked, seemed to slow slightly to let Lorenzo away. The slowing was not enough so that it could be seen, but it was still done. Surreal felt the impact of her sword on the right hitting his left. It jarred her body, but not enough so that she didn't pull back enough to bring her swords in the counterpart: a reverse butterfly swing, starting from above and going towards his stomach.
One of the swords, however, took a quick detour and Surreal pushed her sword with all her strength and added magic towards the shield just above where Lorenzo was holding it from behind.

Lorenzo knew that quick reflexes were going to be necessary in real battle. Deciding to give it all he had, he looked at the situation and realized just where each piece of equipment would best be placed. One sword, the one he saw was pushed with less force, was heading straight for his much stronger piece of equipment - his own blade. The other sword, the one pushed with far more force, was heading for his shield. Nodding his head, he quickly turned. He moved his shield to clash against the butterfly swinging sword, and moved his own sword to heavily block the stronger sword.
Pushing the stronger sword back with all of his force, he shouted with a loss of breath, "Not bad, huh?" He then took his sword back in his hand and decided to go for a direct hit. He didn't want to hurt the Archmage - he could hardly imagine what his Father would say if he told him he had actually tried to wound the Archmage - but his Uncle would never be proud of him if he didn't. And he needed that. He needed to see the world. So he decided to go for a lesser hit. He took his sword in his right hand and held it horizontally so as to block any attacks coming, and then thrusted his left arm, buckler attached, at the Archmage's torso.

Surreal watched Lorenzo dodge her hit to de-shield him with a smile dancing across her features. He took the initiative, guarding with the sword while pushing the buckler forward. Rather than dodge, Surreal moved into the buckler and gently placed her right sword on his arm from the outside. His guard, which was on the inside, would not have been fast enough in battle.
Surreal's own left sword was poised on guard as she looked up blankly at Lorenzo. "Yield or lose your arm," the command was short, to the point-a duel command. She wanted to show that yes, Lorenzo did hit her, but at a great cost.
