Morning had finally come, light peeked through the branches and birds were chirping. This ancient wood was filled with extraordinarily large trees who had to be over a thousand years old, and everyone of them so plentiful with life... except one.
At the base of a short, blackened, leafless tree sat a man sitting cross legged. His hands were pressed together in a triangle formation, and he was muttering inaudible words beneath his breath. A staff lay against the ugly tree and a dagger attached to his waist.

Eidlin let her horse slow his pace to a walk as she looked around the forest she had just entered. All through her journey, she had past grasslands, plains, and nothing remotely so green or peaceful. The half-elf smiled to herself remembering her mother's love for the forest. The girl looked into the darkness of the wood without as much as a shudder. She seemed to like the change in scenery and she felt that being there would help her understand who she really was, a human or an elf.
Just then, Balsid came to a halt which brought his mistress's attention back to reality. She looked ahead and was surprised to see a man sitting cross legged at a base of what looked like a dead tree. He seemed to be oblivious to her presence and she would have been more than happy to move on as not to disturb him, had it not been for his appearance.
He was an elf, one of her mother's people, and the first one she had ever seen since her mother's death. Eidlin tried to look away but found herself immobilized at the sight of him. And so the girl and the horse stood, several feet from the high elf, as unmovable as statues.
