"Well then, young Adrienne; ask away, but I can't promise you that I answer can all of your questions. I'm not a scholar, but I shall answer those that I do know.", replied Cirion Derufin.
Smiling to himself, he thought, The inquisitive youth of today. Well, it can't hurt to tell her what she seeks, but if she goes to far; she may not like what she hears.

"I am here to offer my services as a knight to the lord of the city. It has been a long while since I served anyone; and I desire to serve once more. By serving a greater cause, one can experience such feelings that you normally wouldn't feel. You feel noble in your work, versatile in intelligence, and steadfast in protecting your people.", said Cirion, "That is why I'm here. To uphold order and defend our people."

"Well, first off; it takes many years of training; from learning how to ride, fight, repair one's armor, manners, treating wounds and much more. Then you go with the knight that you serve and travel about with him for quite some time. When you have proven yourself to your mentor, then you will be knighted.", stated Cirion.
"And the training takes longer or goes shorter depending on what you know, but there is the chance you will never become a knight and have to serve other knights as a squire before you can finally be knighted; but that way can take up years of your life. Anything else you wish to know?"

"If you remained focused on your training, took no unnecessary risks, and followed your mentor's instructions; then yes; you could become a knight.", replied the aging knight, "But why ask this of me, Adrienne?"

Adrienne looked him straight in the eyes and said "I ask this of you because I had to know if I had what it took to become a knight and now I know I can."

A small smile lit Cirion's face when the girl spoke these words; he saw the potential in Adrienne, but he was afraid he wouldn't be able to teach here, since his way was already unorthodox as it was.
The young girl would have to find another to teach her, and he regretted that he was becoming worn with age; otherwise he would have made Adrienne his squire then and there. Gazing at the girl, Cirion spoke in a calm voice, "Well then; best of wishes to thee. You probably can find knights willing to train you in the city's barracks. May you become a powerful warrior and be just to all you meet, for that is how a knight should be; no matter what others may say."

"Very well then, Adrienne; but a word of caution.", said Cirion, "Beware the holy order; I mean no disrespect to them when I say this, but if you join their order; then you are bound to it forever. What they do is noble; yes, but it leaves you very few options for the future. This is just my opinion on things, but to me it's better to have some choice on what you do rather than no choice at all. Remember that, Adrienne, for in the future you may need to make a choice like this and no one will be able to guide you. I bid you farewell."
With that, Sir Derufin lowered his visor and set off his horse at a canter; leaving Adrienne to consider what he said.
