A young woman lounged on a wooden chair in the middle of the Library. Her feet, supported only by wrap-around sandles, were set easily atop the table, yet no one told her to remove them from their perch. She sighed and ran crimson nails through waist-length aqua locks as her bright eyes scanned yet another page.
Her pale hands reached out, grabbing a cup which she brought to her lips. She took a deep sip, then set the coffee down and tried to get more comfortable in the chair, shifting easily within her tight, low-cut black midriff and tight black leather pants. When she couldn't take it anymore, she, to the dismay of the librarian, slammed the book shut and opened yet another from the large stack in front of her.
Surreal SaDiablo hated research with a burning passion, yet here she was. Why? Because she was one of the high leaders in the High Elf society, and they needed to know the history of their enemies, the drows. Hence, they made their high leaders-mainly Surreal-research the drows to an unholy extent. An extent which caused migranes. Surreal slammed her head into the book, breathing as deeply as possible without hyperventalating. This day would never end.

Synesan looked up from his spell-books when he heard the sound of the slamming book reverberating through the library. He got up and, closing his own book, wandered over to where the sound had come from.
"Excuse me but this is a library and you really mustn't make so much noi.... Oh, my lady, I did not know that you were in here," he bowed slightly as he spoke, glancing at the book that she had on the table as he did so, "Information on the Drow, eh? They are quite a nuisance aren't they. Although actual battle with them does teach more than books will... or so I've heard."

Surreal brought her head up out of the book and glared at the man who had addressed her as 'my lady.' "The 'wise men' who told you that were wrong," she said, voice not nearly as cold as her eyes, but still nearly tangible like ice. Her bow seemed to reach for its master, but Surreal ignored the black wood.
Looking back at the book, Surreal felt contained predatory anger ripple off her. "And it is not I who wishes for information on the drow, I know enough as it is. The fools," Surreal shot another glare at Synesen, "who put me up to this are the ones who fear we do not have enough knowledge."
"Now if you excuse me, assassins don't speak to strangers without the intention of killing them," Surreal began scanning the same page she had been on for the fifteenth time.

Synesan was slightly taken aback from her harsh reply. He quickly regained his composure and glanced at the book yet again.
"Well, it was not I who set you up to this task of reading these books, so do not take your squabbles out on me. I was merely commenting on your choice, or now as it seems, lack there of in material to be reading," he said, rather annoyed at her attitude. He had assumed that the figurehead of their nation would be more amiable, but it seems that he had been wrong. Either that or she was stressed from reading that which was assigned to her.
"You mentioned assassin... I was unaware that the Archmage was one. Was it your not choice in the matter or did you feel like becoming one in your spare time?"

Surreal did not look up from the page. "I was kidnapped by gnomes as a child and abandoned in the Roof of the World. There the locals taught me to fight as an assassin long before I became a mage." A smile twitched on Surreal's lips, not to be seen because her long aqua hair spilled around her face. "I suppose you could say I became a mage in my spare time."
Surreal turned the page without having absorbed any of the material on the one before it, but she wanted to seem as though she was actually doing something instead of just ignoring the person bothering her-or quite possibly saving her-but Surreal would rather it had been someone who did not address her as someone apart from the rest of the populace.

He nodded slightly at her story, "The gnomes can be a tricky bunch, especially with their dislike of the, as they call them, taller folk. Rather annoying at times, but very good craftsmen. However did they manage to kidnap you at a young age? Did something befall your parents?" he asked, not wanting to pry too much, but curious just the same.

Surreal shrugged, pulling her hair behind her ear with one swift motion. "I don't remember them. I think they left me alone for a moment to go pick something up and then that was when I blacked out." Sighing as she closed the book and looked up at Synesen, she gave him a I'll-tolerate-you-for-now smile. "And you? Why is it you feel the need to establish who one is by the way you speak? Is their title not enough?"

"Hmmm, it seems that they may have grasped you at just such a moment, although why it is uncertain," he said, tryign to remeber what he could about how gnomes liked to operate in such things.
"Establishing whom one is through speech? I never thought about it that way, but I guess I do indeed do that. As I have proved to myself already here today with the knowledge about your assassin qualities, titles are not everything with persons. They are merely how we distinguish ourselves from eachother in a more simplified way."

Surreal laughed then. "Titles are nothing to go by with people," Surreal said, the amusement in her voice not reaching her usually bright aqua eyes. "Blood Crusher IV would be the best name for some little, insignificant boy with no muscles. Our world is built on irony, and a title is only nominal."
"And you?" she asked, the smile leaving her features and voice. "What is your title, one who judges long before given permission."

"The irony of the name would do little for him, but rather give him an od sort of reputation as he got older," he said, thinking about the name.
"As for me... I am a wizard, and as such I am very much involved in reading books and searching for knowledge. Though with your 'title' for me, if you will, is not entirely inaccurate. I do indeed judge people from their titles and then fix my views of them after actually talking with them. It is better to approach things with an edge of caution with people as some have earned their title from the very thing that it implies."

"And yet they never wish to feed the fire under their title in most cases," Surreal responded, quick to give new wood to the argumentative inferno. "Those who do not fall under that category deserve to be labeled and thus rightly judged by all, yet it is they, and only they, who should be judged. To lump the others with them, judge them from the beginning, and fix your mistake later is cruel and unfair. It is not their fault they have been labeled for all to 'know' them."
"Wizard, you say?" Surreal asked. "And stereotypical no less. I do not even have to judge you; you have already judged yourself."

"Cruel and unfair it may be called, but it does not prevent it from possibly giving me warning as to how someone may react were their title true. I feel that the degree of safety id worht the slight misjudgement of character," he answered to her incitement.
"As for me, the studying and research came before the wizarding title ever befell me. It was just something that I liked doing, but now it is almost all I do."

Surreal shook her head. "Why then put the two together? Many mages are also assassins, but I don't say I am a mage-assassin, I seperate the two." Surreal smiled as a wolf might smile at a rabbit. "And I suppose that you might be one of those people who does feel the need to exercise caution. Really, what's the point of living without risks?" Surreal took a sip of her coffee, keeping her eyes on Synesen.
