Eiddwyn wandered aimlessly through the City Square, not looking for anything in particular. Indeed, she wasn't really looking anywhere or paying attention to her surroundings as she sang softly in her untrained voice: "One day, one night, one moment My dreams could be tomorrow..." Lost in that peculiar mood she had sometimes, a serene state of mind in which the realm of thought had full hold over her and very little in the real world actually affected her, Eiddwyn pondered the next line. It was poetic, but it didn't really make sense to her in the context it was in. "One step, one fall, one falt-- "Whoa!" she exclaimed suddenly; focused on her thoughts, the girl hadn't been watching where she was going; as a result, she really did falter -- and collide head-on into someone, no doubt knocking them over and definitely jerking Eiddwyn out of her calm mood. "Oh, I'm so sorry," the girl exclaimed, scampering back a little and looking to see who she'd run into.

Creil had simply been stood stock still in the town square, watching the people go about their buisness, when something hit him. There was a metallic clang followed by another dull thud as whatever, or whoever it was, hit Creil's armoured back with some force, then hit the floor behind him. Hel turned his armoured bulk to look down at whoever who had just run straight into the back of him. Again, as always, he was clad in full, formal armour and his white surcoat. His visor was raised, showing his comely features - his long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He smiled and chuckled to himself as he extended a hand to the girl to help her up. "Art thou injured, madam? I do apologise." He asked, genuine concern in his voice.

"Oh, no sir, it was my fault," Eiddyn said as she grasped his hand and pulled herself upright. "I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." She gave a rueful smile. "I can be a little silly that way sometimes, always off in my little world... but no, I'm fine, and--" she glanced at his full set of platemail "--I'm going to assume you're not, either, 'cause you're really big and all..." Aware that she was babbling, which was usually what happened right aftershe came out of her dream world, Eiddwyn stopped talking and forced herself back on topic. "Anyway, I'm sorry for knocking into you, I really should pay more attention. My name's Eiddwyn, how do you do sir?" She smiled brightly up at the knight.

"Nay gentle lady, thou wert not at fault." He smiled, "It is of no moment, and soon forgotten." Creil said, beaming all the while, even as he listened to her near unintelligable babble, which he did, in truth, find quite entertaining. He chuckled, more to himself than at anything she had said, "Hail Eiddwyn," He said, bowing stiffly in his armour, creaking as he did so, "Mine name is Sir Creil Bevier, pleased to make thine acquaintance," He smiled.

Eiddwyn giggled a little at the creaking sound the knight's armor made as he bowed. She wasn't making fun of it, it just struck her as entertaining. "The honor is mine, Sir Bevier," she answered, sweeping him a curtsy. As she straightened (part of her marvelling at the fact that she hadn't fallen down), her brow furrowed slightly in thought. "Creil Bevier," she said thoughtfully, tapping her chin with the index finger of her right hand. "Now where have I heard that -- oh!" Her eyes found the crest of the Holy Order, her mind said "Paladin," and she remembered. "You're the one on all those bounty bulletins!" It didn't even occur to her to be frightened of him; after all, he'd been nothing but courteous to her so far and besides, he was a Paladin. Eiddwyn had never known a Paladin to be anything less than trustworthy.
"I've been wondering about that," Eiddwyn said to the man, and suddenly her mind came up with a thousand questions. As usual, she tried to ask them all at once: "You're a Paladin, aren't you? What exactly did you of all people do? Did you do anything? What does Rit Megliaf have against religion? Why--" She stopped herself, aware that she had just unleashed a barrage of questions on a complete stranger. "Sorry," she said, laughing a little and blushing. "My mother always said it was like a demon possessed me whenever I got curious..." She smiled fondly at the memory. The first time she'd planted a seed and watched it grow into a flower, she'd wanted to know everything about what made it grow, why, and how. What made the rain fall from the sky, how it was that no matter how many times the sun set in the west, it managed to find its way back east before dawn without anyone seeing -- Eiddwyn had always questioned everything, even (and especially) if no one knew the answer.

Creil smiled warmly, slightly amused by her overwhelming curiosity, and his heart softened by her easy manner. She was both respectful and friendly, to a man she had never before met, and had reason to fear. Creil silently cursed Rit and those bulletins of his. He was making things awkward at the least. Creil knitted his brows in thought, "Ah yes," He sighed, "Thou wilt have seen mine name posted about this city as a traitor and villain." He smiled a wan little smile, "And many seem to beleve without question." His expression brightened and his smile broadened, "Thou art of a pleasantly curious disposition, Lady, and i shalt satisfy thee as best i can," He paused, "Thus in answer to thy questions - Mine bretheren and I hath done nought but help the people of this city, I defied Rit Megliaf and offered him satisfaction for his slave girl, she however did not wish mine intervention. Rit Megliaf is afeared of religion as he doth not understand it, and envies its power over the minds of men. He seeks to eliminate it, a foolish endevour in the least"

Eiddwyn made a face. "'Foolish' is putting it mildly," she agreed. "He's trying to conquer an idea. Not only is that impossible but he'll never know whether or not he has succeeded. Not to mention the whole putting a bounty on someone's head for personal reasons thing, if that's not abusing his authority I don't know what is -- I'm babbling again, aren't I?" she interrupted herself. "Well, I think my original point was that this Lord Megliaf sounds like an idiot so far, and I for one don't trust his judgement as readily as some." Then she laughed. "Why should I? I've never met the man!" The sensible portion of Eiddwyn's brain protested her saying all these things in a place where anyone could overhear, but the rest of her overruled it. When opinions become illegal, that's when I'll worry, bubbly Eiddwyn told the part of her that was such a party-pooper.

Creil chuckled and beamed, "Thou art pert, and correct in thy perceptions, Lady." He said, a note of humour still in his voice. Creil had noticed her worried expression as she spoke, the way she had looked about almost as if to see who was listening, and frowned, his own expression becoming serious. "Thou shouldst not worry, Lady. Should anyone find a problem with thy words, or is offended as thou speakest thy mind, i shall surely give him satisfaction." He said, resting his hand on his sword hilt suggestively, beaming all the while.

OOC: At this point I'm going to assume that I should tweak it.
Eiddwyn shook her head. "That's very kind of you, Sir Bevier, but I'll be okay," she said. "I may not know much about fighting, but if there's trouble I know enough to leave. I had a good teacher, once upon a time." She smiled fondly at the memory; those had been a good couple of months, in spite of her mother's then-recent death. "Anyway," she said, bringing herself back to the present, "I don't really think there'll be any trouble." She glanced around; most of the people seemed to have some kind of religious insignia somewhere on their clothing. The adolescent laughed. "Most of the people here might actually agree with me!" Then she sobered. "But then, for there to be a civil war there must be two sides of the conflict... I'm sure you've heard the rumors about that." She glanced questioningly at the man.

Creil sighed heavily, his face downcast, "The foul rumour that doth infest the city, does sadly carry with it an element of truth. Out of a personal quest for vengeange, and in no small part paranoia and insanity, Rit Megliaf doth begin to prepare for such a confrontation." He removed his hand from the hilt of his sword, and rubbed his chin, "mine bretheren and i wish it not, we wouldst go to great lengths to avoid the impending conflict. Innocents will be injured, property destroyed and honourable men lost -all for the sake of that pompus asses ego." He fumed, his blue eyes flashing briefly, before he reined his emotions in, controlling them more firmly. "That serpent's tongue hath poisoned the citizens of this city against me." He sobbed, "Never was i prepared for the resentment, fear and aggression that doth reside in the souls of all men, to be directed at me all at once." His face sank. Creil was a tough man and a veteran of many conflicts, but he was emotional and gentle, and not asuitably disposed to deal with the way in which most people now treated him.

"I'm sorry," Eiddwyn said quietly, recognizing the emotions in the Paladin's face and voice. "I shouldn't have brought it up." She was quiet for a moment, trying to think of what to say. Then, "But you know," she said on a sudden burst of inspiration, "there is a positive side to all this. True, a civil war would be very nasty and bloody, but without one Rit Megliaf would most likely continue to oppress the people of this city with his high-handed ways." More inspiration. "My mother always used to say that the rain that drowns the rat will also grow the wheat," the girl told the Paladin. "I think that holds true here as well. Besides," she added, "it's hardly as if you have no allies in the entire city. I know of a squire who works in that there tavern," she waved a hand in its general direction, "who hasn't bought into Rit Megliaf's lies. In that same tavern, one of Rit Megliaf's notices about religion hangs with an empty spot on the wall next to it -- the only one in this entire town which is unaccompanied by a bounty bulletin. I can only assume that someone tore it down." Then her usually gentle gray eyes hardened and developed a fierce glint. "And Sir Bevier, if a civil war truly does come and there is anything I can possibly do to help... I can do a little magic -- though not much," she admitted. "I'll help as best as I can."
OOC: Yay for song paraphrases! No yay for entire posts getting deleted, though. I approximated it as closely as I could/felt like approximating it.

Creil smiled warmly, "Mine thanks, little sister." He said beaming. "I must needs be ask, however, the name of yon squire. I do fear me that a certain squire I approached weeks back was in turn approached by the mongrel lap dog-knight whom doth prostrate and fawn at the feet of the 'Lord' Rit." He sighed. "Much time hath passed since then, and i do fear me that his words hast hardened her heart, and steeled her will against me." He frowned heavily.

"I didn't catch her name," Eiddwyn said regretfully. "She had light brown hair and blue eyes, though, and was only a little taller than me." She thought a moment, then added, " and she wore glasses. I've never before seen any kind of warrior who wore glasses." The girl smiled brightly. "Is she the one you're talking about?"

(( OOC - I know ;D thanks ))
Creil sighed, bowing his head, "Then alas, she hath heeded the words, mayhap the summons of Rit's scarborous underlings, i do fear me." He said, his face a picture of sorrow. "Why, oh lord? Why me?" He mumbled to no one in particular.

OOC: Okay, just wanted to make sure. I didn't know what the character looked like 'til I went to check, so...
Eiddwyn blinked in confusion, wondering how the knight had come to this conclusion. "I...well, she sort of seemed to be on your side when I talked to her," she said hesitantly. "Or at least, as much as anyone can be when no one really knows what's going on..." She shook her head a little; she really had no idea what was going on, so it was probably best if she held her tongue. "And as for why you, well, according to your religion God never gives anyone a burden they're incapable of dealing with, does he?" she asked. "I don't know much about it, since I don't follow any kind of religion myself, but I thought I heard something like that."
